Miss South Africa, Zozibini Tunzi Crowned 2019 Miss Universe: 3 Things She Taught Us

Miss Universe, South Africa’s Zozibini Tunzi

South Africa’s Zozibini Tunzi was crowned Miss Universe 2019 at Tyler Perry Studios, Atlanta GA. Zozibini is the 3rd South African Queen to win the coveted title. She joins former South African title holders, Margaret Gardiner and Leigh Nel-Peters.

I grew up in a world where a woman who looks like me– with my kind of hair – was never considered to be beautiful…I think it is time that stops today. I want children to look at me and see my face and I want them to see their faces reflected in mine.

The way the crown hugged her faded-afro demonstrated how the standard of beauty that was once accepted has now been redefined. Zozibini is indeed a beautiful African Queen but it’s her inner beauty that empowers us. Here are 3 things we learned from the new Queen:

  1. Be Authentically You! “My wish for every woman to have courage to show up as you are. Your imperfections are what make you perfect so do the world a favor and let us see you in all your glorious wonder.” –Zozibini Tunzi. Truth is, people want to meet the real you. When we are living our truth, we attract truth. We attract real. We attract love.
  2. People are depending on you. ‘I stand as one but I represent millions’ -Zozibini Tunzi. Our lives are intertwined and your ability to see how awesome you are and walk boldly in your calling gives others the faith to do the same.
  3. You shall rise again. We all have a story. We can not control how we came into the world but we can control how we end. Your struggles can either push you forward or pull you back but the choice is yours. Use your song of distress to give someone rest–you survived so that you could tell others how they can survive too.

Life isn’t about what you’ve attained. It’s about the lives you impacted along the way. Miss Universe 2019 was hosted by Steve Harvey.
