How Your Housecleaning Products Can Be Bad for Your Health

Apart from God and family, your health is the most important thing in the world. You can’t enjoy anything without good health.

My favorite cleaning products are Lysol and Clorox. I have been using them for years and they get the job done. However, every time I use them I get headaches and shortness of breath.

This has been going on for years but I continued to use these products because they give me the best result even though I knew something wasn’t right. I don’t know if its because I’m getting older or have a bigger family now but I am becoming more conscious of the products I’m using in my home and around my children.

According to new research published in the American Thoracic Society’s American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, women showed greater declines in lung function if they’ve worked as cleaners or use certain cleaning products over time. Women who didn’t clean didn’t experience the same rate of lung disease, the researchers said.

Scientists at the University of Bergen in Norway analyzed data from 6,235 participants in the European Community Respiratory Health Survey. The participants, whose average age was 34 when they enrolled, were followed for more than 20 years.

The take-home message of this study is that in the long run, cleaning chemicals cause substantial damage to your lungs. Cleaning your house once per week with household cleaning products can damage your lungs as much as smoking one pack of cigarettes a day.

After reading this study, I am now more eager to find natural products to clean my home.

Going Green!
