Growing up, many of Jessica’s classmates assumed she was ‘rich,’ due to her natural
ability to arrange her outfits that looked like money which became the basis behind her
alias as well as her trademark, ‘Style It Rich!’
Since launching her business in April 2015, countless celebrities have been seen wearing
the Jessica Rich Collection, including Ashanti, Jennifer Lopez, Kourtney Kardashian,
Khloe Kardashian, Kesha, Lil Mama, Tamar Braxton, Sasha Banks & many more.
The brand has created an excellent buzz, consistently featured in magazines and daily
fashion blogs obtaining a large social media following and becoming a go-to brand for
stylists. We got the chance to speak with the business mogul and here’s what she said.
Elle Clarke: Queen, you are dominating in the fashion industry- how did you get started?
Jessica Rich: I came from Reality TV. I did a show back in 2009. It was called, Real Chance
of Love, it was a dating show. I was one of the contestants looking for love, and I got to
the final three, and from there I knew I wanted to do more television. I was living in New
York at the time, so I moved to Los Angeles in 2010. I moved to LA to become an actress
or do anything that would keep me on television, but I realized after doing some movies
that, that wasn’t my niche.
I wanted to wake up and just be me, so I started thinking about
what I could do, and I figured fashion because people always
liked how I dressed.
I began showing people how to look good on a budget. I started styling for videos and
also taught people how to do interior decorating on a budget too. I began with celebrities
homes and found out what they liked, and found those items on a budget. After that, I
fell into PR because I knew so many celebrities and people in the industry. I started my
own PR company back in 2012. Then one day I thought to myself, I should begin my own
fashion line. It was never a goal of mine, but it made sense. Why wouldn’t I try it?
My brand will be three years old in May. I just launched my new Transparent line.
Transparent is a shoe line, all my shoes are see-through, so it’s huge!
Elle Clarke: Wow! You took us on a 10 year journey in a matter of minutes, and
it is impressive to see how your career has evolved. You were a Reality Show Star; then
you were teaching people how to look good on a budget, then an Interior Designer,
Public Relations Expert, and now creating a fashion line that is taking over. Are you a
mother?
Jessica Rich: No- no kids. Never been married. I’m single right now.
FOR ANYONE WHO IS TRYING TO START A FASHION COMPANY, I RECOMMEND JUST GOING FOR IT.
Elle Clarke: Beautiful, talented and Single! So you are now based in LA. How was the
transition from New York to California?
Jessica Rich: Honestly, I love New York, it’s my favorite city. I loved living there; it was
more my style because people there are more direct with you. In LA people tend to be a
little unreliable. However, LA is better for business. Everyone lives here which makes it
much easier to connect with people you need to bump heads with. In my opinion,
regardless of what you are doing in life, you should be based in LA.
Elle Clarke: You are a Reigning Queen. What advice would you give to a young single
woman who wants to start her fashion line, or wants to start a business?
Jessica Rich: For anyone who is trying to start a fashion company, I recommend just
going for it. It’s effortless now with social media. My business was based 100% on social
media. If I didn’t have social media, there is no way I would be where I am. Instagram is
the number one way to direct sales. You post a picture, and someone wears it and then
boom, its immediate sales. It’s incredible what Instagram has done for the world.
We sometimes over-complicate the process when the only thing we need to do
is begin. Jessica Rich has shown us how to do it; now it’s time to get it done!
Let’s get Rich like Jessica!
